What is Petroleum?
Petroleum, often called crude oil, is a naturally occurring liquid found deep beneath the Earth's surface. It's a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, formed over millions of years from the remains of ancient marine organisms. Think of it as Earth's ancient sunlight, stored in liquid form.
It exists because geological processes concentrated these organic remains and subjected them to heat and pressure, transforming them into this valuable energy source. It solves the fundamental problem of energy scarcity for human civilization, powering everything from transportation and industry to electricity generation and the manufacturing of countless everyday products like plastics and fertilizers. Without it, modern life as we know it would grind to a halt.
