Indian officials have denied claims by Bangladeshi police that suspects in the killing of Islamist youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi crossed into Meghalaya. Bangladeshi police had stated that two suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, entered India with local help and that two Indian assistants were in custody.
India, however, found this information inaccurate. This denial comes as Bangladesh also rejected India's concerns about the treatment of minorities in Bangladesh, calling them "inaccurate, exaggerated, or motivated." The incident highlights ongoing cross-border security and diplomatic challenges between the two nations.

Statement 1 is incorrect. West Bengal shares the longest international border with Bangladesh (2,217 km), followed by Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km). Statement 2 is correct; BSF is indeed the primary border guarding force. Statement 3 is also correct; India and Bangladesh signed an Extradition Treaty in 2013, which came into force in 2014.
2. In the context of India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and its diplomatic engagements, which of the following statements is NOT correct?

- C.India has consistently raised concerns about the treatment of ethnic minorities in neighboring countries, irrespective of bilateral relations.
- D.Economic cooperation and cultural exchanges are key pillars of India's engagement with its South Asian neighbors.
Show Answer
Answer: C
Statement C is NOT correct. While India may express concerns about minority treatment, it does so selectively and often through diplomatic channels, balancing it with the principle of non-interference and the overall health of bilateral relations. It's not a 'consistent' or 'irrespective of bilateral relations' approach, as seen in the news where Bangladesh rejected such concerns. Statements A, B, and D accurately describe aspects of India's Neighbourhood First policy and diplomatic principles.

Statement 1 is correct. The LBA of 1974, with its protocol signed in 2011 and ratified by India in 2015, successfully resolved the complex issue of enclaves and adverse possessions. Statement 2 is incorrect. The Teesta water sharing agreement remains a contentious issue and has not been successfully implemented due to political hurdles, particularly from West Bengal. Statement 3 is correct. The Maitri Setu (Friendship Bridge) over the Feni River was inaugurated in 2021, connecting Sabroom (Tripura) with Ramgarh (Bangladesh), significantly boosting connectivity and trade.
