Services Trade

What is Services Trade?

Services Trade refers to the exchange of services across national borders, encompassing a wide range of sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, tourism, transport, professional services, and IT-enabled services.

Historical Background

Historically, international trade focused predominantly on goods. However, with globalization and technological advancements, services trade has grown exponentially. The General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), established under the WTO in 1995, was the first multilateral agreement to cover international trade in services.
